What is business continuity planning, and how is it different from backup?
Backup is a copy of your data. Continuity planning is the tested process for running your business while systems are restored: priorities, people, timelines, and proof.
Plenty of businesses with good backups have suffered terrible recoveries, because nobody had decided what comes back first, who does it, or how long it should take. The plan is the product.
How much does continuity planning cost?
Continuity planning, including scheduled restore drills, is included in every IntermixIT Backup & Recovery agreement.
Standalone continuity engagements for businesses with existing backup tooling are scoped separately. Either way there is no per-drill or per-recovery fee.
What are RTO and RPO?
Recovery time objective (RTO) is how fast systems must return. Recovery point objective (RPO) is how much recent data you can afford to lose. Together they define what your recovery must achieve.
We set both with you in business terms: what an hour of downtime costs, which systems make payroll happen, and what customers will tolerate. The technology follows from the answers.
How often do you actually test recovery?
Restore verification runs continuously, and full recovery drills are scheduled through the year, with findings documented and reviewed with you.
The drill is the honest part of the plan. Every drill either proves the plan or improves it, and both outcomes are wins.
What happens during a ransomware event?
The playbook runs: isolate affected systems, assess the spread, restore clean from protected backup points, and communicate on a schedule, all in a rehearsed order.
Because the sequence was practiced, the decisions are already made. That is what keeps a ransomware event a bad day instead of a business-ending month.
Do you work with our internal IT team?
Yes. In co-managed arrangements your team owns the systems while we bring the planning framework, the drill discipline, and extra hands during a real event.
A real recovery is an all-hands event. Having a partner who has rehearsed it with you doubles your capacity on the worst day.
Will this satisfy compliance and insurance requirements?
Yes for the business continuity and disaster recovery planning requirements in most frameworks and cyber policies, with drill reports as evidence.
Auditors and insurers have learned to ask for test results, not just a plan document. Ours exist because the drills actually happen.
What is not included in continuity planning?
We plan and rehearse the technology recovery. Facilities, physical safety, and lines of insurance are your domain, though the plan coordinates with all three.
We will happily sit with your insurance agent or landlord to align the pieces, but we stay honest about which parts of a disaster are IT problems and which are not.
